In 1978, Tim and Lee Flaherty founded an event that, over the years, has raised more than $1.3 million for the American Cancer Society. The event is Strides for Life, a four-day, 100-mile over-the-road run that annually brings together dozens of runners and volunteer staffers who raise money by soliciting pledges in support of their efforts. (Never did the Flahertys dream that their fundraiser would still be going strong and touching hearts after 40 years!)
Tim and Lee are no longer active in Strides for Life, but this summer they had the pleasure of joining a number of Strides for Life alumni to celebrate Strides’ 40-year anniversary, the many friendships that have grown out of the event and, most importantly, the tremendous progress that has been made in the fight against cancer over the last half century.
