Since 1904, the sound of summer has been the roar of a power boat race like no other. Each year, unlimited hydroplane drivers compete in search of that ultimate prize: the APBA Gold Cup! The Detroit River has been home to this race thirty times, most recently in 2018, making Michigan a big part of its 100+ year-old history.
A couple of weeks ago, the Huron River Hunting & Fishing Club hosted the reigning APBA Gold Cup champion, Andrew Tate. Club member, Bob Sakuta, was also on hand to answer questions about the involvement of his companies, Delta Gear, Delta Research and Realtrac, in providing components for the winning hydroplane and serving as a sponsor. Attendees, including our own Evan Chall and Heather Miles, had the unique opportunity to meet the winning driver and his team, while the gold cup itself was on display for all to enjoy!
