Playing It Safe

Wright Beamer is always seeking new opportunities to stay at the forefront of the issues that impact our clients every day, even beyond the legal field. To that end, last night Julie Cotant attended a brief seminar on cyber security. Some quick pointers that she picked up are easy things you can do to increase your personal safety online:

  • Don’t view sensitive information (bank accounts, etc.) over public WiFi. It’s incredibly easy for hackers to access your information, track you and the like.
  • Remove your birthdate from social media sites.
  • Turn off “location services” on your phone. It increases your cyber risk (and it drains your battery!).
  • Don’t use your “admin” profile on your personal computer. Create a subordinate profile and only use that because it will notify you if any malware or other threat tries to make changes on your computer.
