Last month, Heather Miles looked on as her niece, Grace Brenneman, made waves at the 2022 Girl’s Swimming & Diving State Tournament. Several members of the Brenneman family, including another niece who is a budding swimmer, were in attendance as Grace medaled in four events (breaking her own school records) and helped lead the Concord High School team to its best finish at a state championship.

But it wasn’t just the competition that made the day. After all the events were finished, Grace was named the 2022 Mental Attitude Award winner for girls’ high school swimming in the state of Indiana. The Indiana High School Athletic Association Executive Committee selects one senior participant at the state finals, nominated by his or her principal and coach, who has exhibited “mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability.” Heather’s brother and sister-in-law were with Grace as her name was announced – a proud day for the whole family!

Grace will be staying close to home as she begins college this fall. In 2020, she committed to the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame. We can’t wait to see what wonderful things she will do there!
