Garden Walk

On Saturday, June 27, Livonia’s Annual Garden Walk will once again invite residents to explore some of the city’s most beautiful and carefully cultivated spaces.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to tour five private gardens located throughout Livonia, along with the gardens surrounding the Simmons-Hill House at Greenmead Historical Park. The self-guided event allows visitors to move at their own pace, taking in a variety of landscapes, plantings, and gardening styles across the city.

Hosted by the Friends for the Development of Greenmead, the Garden Walk is part of a longstanding effort to support and preserve one of Livonia's most treasured community assets. Established in 1978 as a nonprofit organization, the Friends were created to raise funds for the development and restoration of Greenmead Historical Park. Over the years, the organization has helped fund numerous preservation projects, including a recent $50,000 contribution toward the restoration of the Greenhouse and $7,000 toward the restoration of the east stained-glass windows at the Newburg Church.

That commitment to preservation makes the Garden Walk a natural fit for the organization's mission. While the event showcases beautiful gardens, it also highlights the value of maintaining and investing in the spaces that help tell a community's story.

On the day of the event, participants will check in at either the Robert and Janet Bennett Civic Center Library or the Simmons-Hill House at Greenmead to receive a guidebook for the tour. From there, they'll set out to explore the featured gardens throughout Livonia at their own pace.

Now in its 36th year, the Garden Walk has become a local summer tradition—one that offers a chance to appreciate the creativity of local gardeners while supporting the ongoing preservation efforts that help keep Greenmead's history alive for future generations.
