Since 2010, the City of Farmington Hills Public Art Program has transformed City Hall into more than a civic building, creating a space where art is part of everyday life for residents, visitors, and employees. Carefully curated, juried exhibits showcase a wide range of artistic voices and mediums, reflecting both local identity and broader perspectives while making the arts accessible and engaging for all.
As part of the 2026–2027 installation, the program includes a series of solo and group shows in the Rotating Exhibits Gallery near City Council Chambers. Beginning March 30, that gallery will feature a fresh exhibit, Talking With Strangers, a series of acrylic paintings by Ken Claes. The work explores how we react, interpret, and connect when engaging with people we’ve never met—highlighting what feels shared, what feels unfamiliar, and how these interactions shape our understanding of one another.
The full installation includes 77 works from 66 artists across painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media. With each rotation, the experience evolves, offering fresh perspectives even in a familiar space.
Visitors are also encouraged to participate in a literary opportunity, drawing inspiration from the artwork to create poems, short stories, essays, or other written works. Submissions can be shared online.
