As we age, maintaining a healthy diet becomes even more important, and Senior Project Fresh is all about helping our older neighbors live healthier lives.
The statewide initiative is designed to support seniors by making nutritious food more accessible. Participants receive free nutrition education along with $25 worth of coupons. These coupons can be redeemed for fresh fruits, vegetables, and other wholesome foods at participating farmers markets and roadside stands.
The program is open to residents aged 60 or older with a household income of $27,861 or less (individuals) or $37,814 or less (couples). The program is also open to residents aged 55 or older who are members of a Michigan federally recognized tribe or urban tribal group. Applicants must live in the county where coupons are obtained. It runs annually from May 1 to October 31, so there is still time to take part.
We are proud of our friends at the Farmington Farmers Market for participating in Senior Project Fresh and for all its work in keeping our community healthier and stronger. This Saturday will be the final day of the season when a program representative will be available at the market information tent for anyone who would like to learn more. We hope you’ll visit the Farmington Farmers Market, pick up some fresh produce, and spread the word about this great program!
