Making Seasons Bright

The holidays are a time for gathering, giving, and celebration. But for some families and seniors in our community, meeting everyday needs can make the season difficult. For more than 85 years, the Farmington Area Goodfellows has worked to make sure our neighbors aren’t overlooked.

Founded in 1939, the all-volunteer organization serves Farmington and Farmington Hills through its mission: “No Child or Senior without a Christmas.” Each year, Goodfellows provides local residents with food, toys, books, diapers and gift cards for groceries, clothing and other necessities.

The deadline to apply for holiday assistance is November 27, 2026, making now an important time for eligible families to submit their applications.

There are also several ways to support the effort. On December 5, Downtown Farmington’s annual Holly Days includes a holiday movie at the Farmington Civic Theater. Admission is free with a donation to Goodfellows, such as nonperishable food, new, unwrapped toys or money. On December 12, the Farmington Hills Figure Skating Club hosts its Holiday Show at Founders Sports Park Ice Arena, with donations benefiting Goodfellows. Volunteers are also needed for the organization's Delivery Day on December 19, helping distribute holiday packages to local households.

The work doesn’t stop with the holidays. From January through October, Goodfellows collects canned and boxed foods, paper products and personal care items to stock the Neighborhood House Food Pantry. Collection boxes are available in local city buildings.

Whether you apply for assistance, donate, attend an event or volunteer, there are meaningful ways to support neighbors close to home. Learn more, apply for assistance, or find ways to give at Farmington Area Goodfellows.
