Senior Project Fresh

We all know that fresh fruits and vegetables are just good for our health. For many older adults, though, getting fresh produce regularly can be a challenge. Michigan’s Senior Project Fresh program is helping to change that.

The program provides qualifying seniors with vouchers they can use at local farmers markets and mobile stands across the state. That means easier access to seasonal favorites like sweet corn, tomatoes, or apples without stretching a fixed budget. At the same time, the program supports Michigan’s farmers, creating a win-win for everyone involved.

This year, the program has moved away from paper applications and paper coupons. Instead, it now uses an electronic system through the vendor, Healthy Together. The switch is designed to make the process easier for both seniors and farmers by simplifying applications, reducing paperwork, and streamlining the way benefits are redeemed.

Eligibility remains the same: Michigan residents aged 60 or older who meet income guidelines can apply through local senior centers or community partners. Once approved, participants receive their electronic benefits to use during the growing season. Benefits must be used by October 31, encouraging participants to take advantage of Michigan’s full harvest season. For more details on how the program works, you can read the official participant instructions from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Beyond the food itself, the program offers something even more valuable: connection. A visit to the farmers market brings the chance to meet local growers, discover new produce, and enjoy the sense of community that comes with Michigan’s harvest season.

At Wright Beamer, we celebrate programs like Senior Project Fresh that not only improve daily life but also strengthen the communities where we’re proud to live and serve.
