The Heart in the Art

February in Downtown Farmington has a little extra heart this year, and it’s showing up in all the right places.

All month long, the community is invited to celebrate Heart the Art, a public art experience designed to connect people, local businesses, and creativity throughout downtown. The idea is simple and inviting: take a self-guided tour of public art in Downtown Farmington, ideally with a Syndicate hot beverage in hand, and explore at your own pace.

As you wander downtown this February, you’ll find art woven naturally into parks, storefronts, and gathering places. Highlights along the way include sculptures in Riley Park by Ken Thompson and Rick Malt, murals at the Farmington Civic Theater, The Vines Flower and Garden Shop, and the former Sunflour Bakehaus, and standout pieces at Dinan Park and Mason’s Corner by the Detroit Design Center. Keep an eye out for Doug Delind’s traveling Faces of Farmington sculpture. Part of the experience is the joy of discovering where it has landed.

Heart the Art is also about looking forward. Community members are encouraged to share their ideas for future public art projects, helping shape what comes next for Downtown Farmington. The goal is simple: to ensure that future installations reflect the voices, creativity, and spirit of the people who live and work here.

So bundle up, grab a warm drink, and take a winter walk through downtown. Whether you’re seeing these pieces for the first time or noticing them in a new way, Heart the Art is an invitation to slow down, look around, and celebrate the creativity that brings our community together all February long.
