Getting Your Money Back

Michigan business owners, especially those in the manufacturing and agricultural sectors, have been impacted by tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The US Supreme Court recently declared those particular tariffs to be unconstitutional, paving the way for the refund of more than $166 billion in tariffs collected by the federal government, plus interest.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be responsible for processing the refund requests. Just a week ago, CBP launched a website through which businesses can submit their claims. You can read the CBP bulletin describing the process here.

The bulletin includes several links to shepherd businesses through the refund process, including instructions on how to enroll via the CBP portal and resources such as training videos, training guides, and answers to frequently asked questions. Technical questions can be submitted to IEEPARefunds@cbp.dhs.gov. General questions can be submitted to traderelations@cbp.dhs.gov.
