New Year, New Minimum Wage

Some employees will be receiving a wage increase on January 1, 2017 (whether or not their employer planned it)! The minimum wage in Michigan increases to $8.90 per hour (or $3.38 for employees earning tips). Beginning in 2018, the minimum wage will rise an additional 35 cents to $9.25 per hour (or 14 cents to $3.52 for employees earning tips). After the 2018 increase, minimum wage will be calculated by a formula using the consumer price index and averaging the annual change for the immediate past five-year period for our region.

Please feel free to call us with any questions about the new minimum wage or about employee wage and hour questions in general.

Happy New Year!
