Partnering with Samaritas, Hope Lutheran Church has recently sponsored two refugee families from the Congo. Displaced by decades of civil war and social unrest, the families have legally resettled in the United States. Led by Jessica Beamer and a team of dedicated volunteers, Hope members have spent the last few months gathering household and personal items, shuttling family members to English classes and school registrations among other places, and providing move-in crews for the families’ apartments in Hamtramck. Hope will walk alongside the families for at least the first year as the adults find employment and the children start school.
