‘Tis the Season to be… Generous!

‘Tis the Season to be…

Extraordinary generosity and compassion have been enduring hallmarks of American culture for many generations, but the spirit of American benevolence particularly shines at this time of year. Perhaps it’s the good will that accompanies the holiday season, or perhaps it’s the spike in the number of dead car batteries, broken furnaces, and house fires that seem to accompany the onset of winter weather. Or, for some, perhaps it’s simply that we have a year-end bonus check burning a hole in our pockets, or we need to engage in a little charitable giving in order to maximize our income tax deductions.

Whatever the reason, this is the time of year when most of us become more keenly aware of the needs of others and feel compelled to respond to those needs. Even many American employers, in the exercise of good corporate citizenship, have taken to providing opportunities for themselves and their employees to join together in giving of their time and treasure.

Such has been the long-standing habit of Wright Beamer. This year, we’ve elected to “adopt” a family through SOUL (“Source of Universal Love”), a local nonprofit that does invaluable work in assisting families and individuals in all kinds of adverse situations. Our particular adoptive family has recently lost everything, including their home and business equipment. SOUL is providing counsel, raising funds, collecting clothes, tools, and household goods, and otherwise helping the family to rebuild their lives.

If you’d like to find out more about SOUL and other resources for Southeast Michigan families and individuals in crisis, please go to http://sourceofuniversallove.com. You can also conduct an online search or contact your municipality, your local paper, your place of worship, or your library to learn what organizations and programs are available in your community and how you might support them.
