As we noted before, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, or “LARA,” has made renewing your corporation’s assumed name both easier and faster by offering renewals online.

Eligible corporations whose assumed names will expire on or before December 31 of this year were sent notice in September and are able to renew online any time before year-end. If you have misplaced the corporate customer identification number (CID) and personal identification number (PIN) required to complete the filing online, you can recover them through the LARA website. Corporate annual reports and limited liability company annual statements can also be filed online, and payments can be made with a credit card.

Once filed, the Certificate of Renewal of Assumed Name and updated expiration date can be viewed through the Business Entity Search tab.

Joint venture and partnership assumed names must still be submitted by mail or in person to the Corporations, Securities & Commercial Licensing Bureau office in Lansing, and the option to submit via mail or in person remains available to all corporations.
